Cléo from 5 to 7

Agnès Varda, 1962

Rating: 5 out of 5

Long before Richard Linklater's Before Sunrise, Agnès Varda playfully toys with one of cinema's most powerful elements, time, to give us a fascinating insight into the life of her titular character. What starts off as a playful look at the world of a French singer soon becomes something a lot more contemplative, transforming into a delicate romantic tale where we feel fully immersed in the Cléo's thoughts and fears.
